Tracks and Courses

What new methods would
you like to learn?

To help structure your learning we have organized the IPSA-USP Summer School into 7 distinct Tracks that represent key skills in the social sciences, from Comparative Historical Analyses to Modeling and Analyzing Public Opinion.

Each track contains up to three courses, each one building on the previous course to ensure we are accumulating knowledge and skills.

Please note the information below relates to the 2020 Edition of the IPSA-USP Summer School. Details on the 2021 Summer School will be released in the near future – please check back in March!

Course 1: January 13th – 17th, 2020

Course 2: January 20th – 24th, 2020

Course 3: January 27th – 31st, 2020

During enrollment, you will be asked to rank the tracks in order of your preference. Tracks must be followed sequentially, so students must enroll for – or have already completed – the first course if they wish to enroll for the second, and must enroll for – or have already completed – the second course if they wish to enroll for the third course.

Note that students enrolled for all three weeks must enroll in at most two tracks. (So it is not possible to enroll in three courses from three separate tracks).  This is to encourage deeper and more focused learning, based on our experience with the Summer School. If you have already started your application, please don’t forget to complete it by uploading your Statement of Interest and CV.

We also offer a preparatory Core Foundation Course in Mathematics for Social Scientists between 6th and 10th January 2020 that is available to anyone and offered at a discounted rate.

learn by doing

Each of our courses includes a morning session led by the Teaching Faculty and an afternoon lab session where you have the chance to apply the methods and techniques discussed in the morning.

Courses are intensive explorations of a specific topic, allowing you to become an expert quickly. Lab sessions involve applied problem-solving, producing analyses of real cases, role-play sessions and learning to use new software.

Many courses also provide space for students to apply what they have learned to their own research questions, ensuring the course is relevant to you and allowing you to get feedback from your peers and international faculty.

We look forward to welcoming you to São Paulo in 2020!
