Description

This course reviews the main methodologies employed in comparative-historical analysis.  It focuses on the use of process tracing, narrative analysis, and counterfactuals for within-case analysis, the types of comparison commonly employed in comparative-historical analysis, and the different ways that comparative-historical researchers combine within-case and comparative methods.  

The course also reviews material on gathering and interpreting historical data and strategies and techniques for choosing cases for comparative-historical analysis.
