Natália Calfat is pursuing her PhD degree in the Department of Political Science at University of São Paulo. She is a member of the Middle East and Muslim World Study Group at the same institution. Her case research focuses on confessional power-sharing in Lebanon and veto power by minority players. Natalia will be the teaching fellow for the entire sequence of courses in the Comparative Historical Analysis track.
Gustavo Diaz is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He studies Comparative Politics and Political Methodology, with focus on the political economy of developing countries and improving causal inference in experimental and observational studies. His research has been funded by the Lemann Institute for Brazilian Studies. He will be the teaching fellow for the course on Making Causal Critiques.
Vicente G. Ferraro Jr. is a PhD candidate at the University of São Paulo in the Department of Political Science. He has researched projects dealing with identity and politics, particularly in post-Soviet states (the ethnonational question) and in South American border regions. He was admitted to the Higher School of Economics, in Moscow, where he completed a Master ‘s degree in Applied Politics. At present, he is working on a dissertation about the impact of ethnicity on the regime transitions of post-Soviet states, notably Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Vicente will be the Teaching Fellow for the course on Ethnographic Fieldwork in Political Science.
Andrea Junqueira is a Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University and a research associate at the Brazilian Center of Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP). Her research interests include policymaking in coalition governments and the effects of institutions on party behavior. Andrea will be a teaching fellow for the course Causal Inference and Field Experiments
Ali Kagalwala is a PhD student at Texas A&M University. He is interested in the political economy of redistribution, and in explaining discrimination against African Americans in the US. Some of his current work focuses on explaining budgetary spending within coalition governments, on explaining discrimination against African Americans using comparative political economy models, and on models for compositional data. Ali will be the teaching fellow for the Essentials of Time-Series Analysis and Fundamentals of Time-Series Analysis courses.
Jefferson is an Adjunct Professor at Universidade Paulista (Brazil). He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of São Paulo. His research interests are Political Economics, Public Finance, Taxation and Economic Inequality, focusing on Latin America. Jefferson will be the teaching follow for the Survey Design and Survey Analysis courses.
Nathalie is a PhD Candidate in Political Science and Research Assistant of the Department of Political Science at Texas A& M University. She is a Fulbright Scholar. She worked for the Colombian Government for 8 years in topics related to Human Rights and Transitional Justice’s policies. Her main areas of interest are bureaucrats’ behavior, decentralization and local development. She has used mixed methods research designs with an emphasis on qualitative studies. Nathalie will be a teaching fellow for the two courses in Multi-Methods Research.
Thiago is a doctoral student in the Political Science Department at Texas A&M University and holds his Master’s degree in political science from the University of São Paulo. His research interests lie in comparative politics and focus primarily on democratic institutions, judicial politics, and elections. He will be a teaching fellow for the course in the Core Foundational Course in Mathematics for Social Scientists.
Hannah is a doctoral student in the Political Science Department at the University of Colorado. Her research interests include political behavior and attitudes to immigration. She will be a teaching fellow for the course in Advanced Time Series Cross-Section Analysis.
Guilherme A. Russo is a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Politics and Economics in the Public Sector Studies (CEPESP-FGV). He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at Vanderbilt University in 2018, where he was affiliated with the Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP). His primary research interests are comparative political behavior, research methods, and Latin American politics. Guilherme will be a teaching fellow for the courses in Survey Experiments and Comparative Survey Analysis.
Adrian Siefkas is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Missouri. She studies Comparative and American politics and is broadly interested in the politics of development, democratization, and conflict. Her current research focuses on mineral extractive conflicts and climate change opinion in Latin America. Adrian will be a teaching fellow for the Essentials of Regression course.
Victor Shin is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Missouri. His research interests lies the fields of political economy and comparative politics. His work focuses on the effects of inequality on redistribution, taxation and voting. He will be a teaching fellow for the Designing Comparative Research course.
Natalia is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of São Paulo (USP). She holds two Master’s degrees in Political Science: one from USP and another from University of Bologna. She is currently the coordinator of the prevention program against forced labor at Reporter Brasil NGO. She will be a teaching fellow for the Interviewing and Multi-Methods Research course.
